This policy explains what Soothing Dental collects through this website, why, and what you can do about it. It covers this website only. Information you give us as a patient in the office is handled under our HIPAA notice of privacy practices, which we can hand you at any visit.
What this site collects
What you send us. If you fill in the contact form, we receive your name, phone number, email address, the best day or time to reach you, if you give one, and whatever you write in the message. That goes to the practice as an email so we can answer you, and if you gave an email address we send an automatic note to it saying your request arrived. A copy of each request is also kept on this website for 90 days, so that nothing is lost if an email goes astray, and is then deleted automatically. The practice keeps the emailed messages for two years, unless you become a patient, in which case your records are kept under the retention rules that apply to dental records in Michigan. You can ask us to delete a message sooner.
What your browser sends. Like nearly every website, our web server records ordinary technical details of each visit: the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, and general device and browser information. This is used for security and to keep the site working.
One cookie of our own. This site sets a single session cookie, which keeps the contact form secure. It holds no personal details and is removed when you close your browser.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful, in aggregate. It sets cookies in your browser and records things like the pages you view and roughly where in the world you are. It also records some actions on the page, such as sending the contact form, tapping our phone number or following a link to another site. It never records what you type. We do not use it to identify you personally, we do not run advertising or remarketing from this site, and we do not sell anything to anyone.
How to opt out of analytics
If you would rather not be counted, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. It works across every site you visit, not just ours. Your browser's own privacy settings, or a private window, will also limit what analytics can see.
Maps
Our contact page embeds a Google map so you can get directions. Loading that map means your browser contacts Google directly, and Google may set its own cookies. That is Google's processing under Google's privacy policy, not ours, and it happens whether or not you have opted out of our analytics.
Please do not send medical details through this site
The contact form and ordinary email are not secure channels, and nothing here is a substitute for talking to us. Please keep website messages to scheduling and general questions. If you need to discuss your health, call us at (734) 453-9413 and we will take it from there. If this is a dental emergency, call us rather than writing.
Who else is involved
The site runs on hosting provided by our web host, and analytics is provided by Google. Those companies process data on our behalf in order to keep the site running and to report on its use. We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Children
We treat children as patients, and we are glad to. This website, though, is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information online from anyone under 13. A parent or guardian should make any request on a child's behalf.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Call the practice or write to the address below and we will sort it out.
Changes
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page. Anything significant will be obvious here rather than buried.
